MUSIC THAT HIT SOULS

Music can be something to every people. Not just only good or bad music, it is beyond that. One of the others might think, music makes my day better. Others might think it helps to concentrate. However, some people put their life into music.

 

Hans Dohar Abednego Tapubolon is one of the people that willing to put their heart into music. When in the band, he uses "Dosky" for his stage name.

"For me, music is a tool to create an impact on someone's life. Through music, I can create an atmosphere on the stage for everyone to remember the moment. Until now, I still eager to polish my skill in music."

 

Dosky arrived in Salatiga in 2018. He doesn't come with zero skill in the music and he's already learning guitar since junior high school from his dad. "I was look up to my dad. He is my inspiration to dive into the music world. So, I decided to level up my skill over time until now."

 

During his time studying English Literature, Dosky learns to help his parents by earning his own money to pay for his daily necessities. "I can play guitar and I don't ashamed to perform in the street singing with my guitar. I don't wanna be burdensome for my parents. Then, I will make money and pay my living so my parents will only send the tuition fee for my study."

 

"It is hard to manage my time since I'm studying and working at the same time. Luckily, I have a supportive kost mate. He is very kind to me and always encouraging. Because of that, my exhaustion from study and work not heavy. To manage my time, I tried to finish my assignments ASAP then I can work without any distraction. The most important thing is I cannot let my work disturb my studies. I must finish my study no matter what!"

 

It is a useful skill to manage time and Dosky applied it in his life. When most people cannot manage their time, Dosky has already learned it and have a clear purpose to come in Salatiga.

 

In 2020, Dosky is evolving to the next level. From guitarist who usually has the street performance to join the band called Ligia Project that has a routine schedule in cafes.

 

"I'm glad that I was invited to join the band. This is my opportunity to not only earn more money but also meeting with various people who have one similarity, music. In the band, every member helps each other with the development. But, I'm so thankful for the bassist, Mas Dave. Without him, I think I do not belong in here and he is my savior. HAHAHAHAHA." A big laugh comes from Dosky, as he reminiscing his past career.

 

Talking about music world, Dosky also quite lucky. Not only meet the new people in the band and learn from the others, Dosky can do the recording session with lower price compared to record in professional studio.

 

"You know, as a musician, I want to make my own song. However, the recording session in the studio is extremely expensive. For one hour you need to pay for every instrument you use in recording. Take an example, if I record with my guitar, I need to pay at least one million for only the guitar sound. Now, I also need to pay for my voice. That is not included with mixing sound to make the quality is good. Luckily, my bandmate, mas Henokh has the tools to do the recording session in his home. Usually, I will save some money for the recording session in the bank. But, my method is strange, hahaha. If we make a bank account, we usually get the card to make our transaction easier right? However, I destroyed my card on purpose so, I cannot withdraw in the ATM, and I only use that money for my music future."

 

"My position in the band is a guitarist. Sometimes, I used to sing along with my guitar if we don't bring a singer. And in a rare case, I ever playing drum too but it is only on some occasions."

Dosky and Ligia Project are talented people. They usually have a monthly contract to have regular performance in cafes around Salatiga.

As Dosky scratched his head. "We usually don't have practice at all. We just practicing when we arrived at the spot as well as we have a soundcheck. However, it is different if we are invited to perform in a big event such as a wedding. We must practice before the D-day to make sure, our performance is successful."

 

A musician is not only playing music, but they also have to entertain and engage with the audience.

 

"The hardest challenge in my music career is handling the audience. We don't wanna just playing music, standing two or three hours, get the food, and get the payment. That's not what we want. I'm excited when the audience has their focus on us during the performance. And, it makes us happy if they decided to sing along with us. To achieve this, it starts with us. We must come with excitement to easily engage with the audience. Back to my purpose of playing music. It is a tool to create a meaningful especially positive impact so, they will remember us not only as a nice band but also 'They have something different compared to the other band'. The band that hit people, soul." As he stated that with proud eyes.
